2019 College Internship Announced!

February 27, 2019 by Kevin Denee

Coming off a very successful internship program last year, Palitto Consulting Services is excited to announce our 2019 college internship program!

We are seeking a motivated college Junior or Senior that is majoring in Computer Science or Computer Engineering for our summer internship program. We are looking for someone that has reached the point in their education where they are ready to apply what they’ve learned and are eager to gain real world experience. The successful candidate will be primarily working with our Software Developers, but also our System and Network Administrators, Project Managers and Technical Sales professionals to give you a broad perspective of the entire field.

Our goal for this internship program is to help the next generation of professionals entering our industry transition from the theory you learn in school to applied knowledge in a business environment. In keeping with the goal to help the next generation, we will assign you an independent project to design, develop and implement a 2-week long internship program for four high school students working toward their STEM Honors Diploma. This will give you an opportunity to experience working as a technical lead while showing off your technical skills, all while you help guide these students as they prepare to enter a college curriculum similar to your own. (To learn more, interested candidates may want to read our blog post summarizing the success of our 2018 internship. )

This is a paid internship that will run from 5/23 till 8/16, working 40 hours/week at our Wadsworth facility. For more information and to apply, visit our full description. The application deadline is 3/29/19.

PCS Developers Attend Intensive SQL Training Event

February 28, 2019 by Kevin Denee

Recently, Jay Holliday and Sean Gaffney from our development team attended the SQLSaturday event in Cleveland. SQLSaturday is a highly regarded training event geared toward Microsoft Data Platform professionals. The all-day training focused on SQL Server, Business Intelligence and Analytics. At PCS, we promote a culture of continual learning for our employees. Staying abreast of the latest technology and how we can put it to better use to give our clients an advantage, motivates what we do every day.

Delving Deeper for Successful Outcomes

Many of our projects require in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of SQL. Jay and Sean attended the workshop to receive some focused instruction on database performance. While there, he learned many of the ins and outs of tweaking information systems to operate at maximum efficiency. He also learned ways to help our clients get the most benefit from their current database systems. The new techniques he picked up will benefit him professionally and help the clients he works with become more competitive.

Learning More To Serve Better

We believe in our development team at PCS, and we support them by investing in each member’s growth at every opportunity. SQLSaturday is just one example of how we promote learning opportunities to help our developers augment their skills and knowledge. Why do we do this? The answer is simple: we know that as we expand our teams’ knowledge, our clients receive more value from working with us. Clients put their trust in us to provide them with solutions that enhance their effectiveness, and we take their expectations seriously. At PCS, “We Care, We Know, We Serve,” is something we live by, and it defines how we serve our clients.

PCS Programmers Attend CodeMash

February 7, 2019February 6, 2019 by Kevin Denee

Several members of our development team attended CodeMash 2019 in Sandusky. Those representing Palitto Consulting Services this year were Jay Holliday, Erinn Lynn, Adam Maust,  Zach Pertee and Chris Stevens.

According to CodeMash’s website, this conference “is a unique event that educates developers on current practices, methodologies and technology trends in variety of platforms and development languages such as Java, .NET, Ruby and PHP. Held every January at the lush Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio, attendees will be able to attend a world-class technical conference amid Ohio’s largest indoor waterpark.”

CodeMash is the best polyglot developer conference in the Midwest. This is one event several team members always attend to stay current with the latest developer technologies, tools and techniques. A few highlights were some great security sessions presented by OWASP as well as several great IoT sessions. Other notable industry trends we are following include: document DB’s, AR/VR, Micro Services, Progressive Web Apps, Java Script Frameworks, Cloud-based services (Azure and Amazon), among others.

Our team of developers and engineers highly value the opportunity to continue learning the latest technologies, platforms and languages. We see this as an imperative as we serve our clients.

Beyond the technical classes taken, some on our team use the opportunity to learn more about leadership, team building and other soft skills. A takeaway included a quote from CS Lewis: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.” Another was: “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel”.

Our developers are committed to personal growth and staying ahead of the technology curve for our clients. We are looking forward to attending again next year. In the meantime, if you need assistance from our growing development team, don’t hesitate to contact us.

CES 2019: 5G, AR, VR, IOT and More!

February 5, 2019February 5, 2019 by Kevin Denee
CES 2019

PCS’s Tim Zarkovacki and Bryon Palitto attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 in Las Vegas. CES is one of the largest technology shows in the world, with attendees visiting from across the globe.

As stated on www.ces.tech, “CES Is the Global Stage for Innovation. CES is the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.”

With more than 182,000 attendees from 160 countries, Tim and Bryon were able connect with a wide variety of businesses and individuals. It is valuable for our team to attend these types of conferences for a variety of reasons.

Twenty years ago, enterprises drove consumer technology. Today, consumers are driving the enterprises to produce the technology they want. This show is filled with leading edge consumer electronics and technologies. To understand this will allow us to understand where the needs of our clients will be.

CES provides the opportunity to see how new technology is being used and adopted across many verticals that affect our customers. It also provides a venue to talk with vendors and technologists about where the tech is going, its strengths and weaknesses, and how best advise our clients in adopting it.

Emerging Technologies

The major themes of the conference included the 5G cellular network and related technologies. Our team also noted the continual advancement of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, with more realistic business applications coming into view. Also, the impact of IoT devices, especially their detection abilities, was also a major focus. Of course, Artificial Intelligence is also a big part of these emerging consumer technologies.

Another big trend is that we will continue to see more human to machine partnerships, like we see with Alexa, IBM Watson, Google Home, etc. Voice is a huge trend, and the industry is seeing consumers pivoting from typing to speaking. The technology is maturing, which makes for easier use and adoption of the tech. It’s interesting to note that smart speakers are using voice because it is the quickest path to cognition in the brain.

Today we are in the data age, and we all understand we are being challenged with privacy and security issues. We are also experiencing an entire generation that is built on being connected with technology. Not only is Internet connectivity expected, it is assumed.

As you and your business continues to advance forward, attempting to make the most of the available technologies, we welcome a discussion with one of our solution architects. Our team is dedicated to helping our clients continue to make intelligent use of available technologies. We love tech and we want to help. Contact us today to start the discussion.
