SQL Saturday – The Latest on Microsoft’s SQL

November 14, 2019 by Kevin Denee

On October 5th, 2019, our team member Jay Holiday attended SQL Saturday in Pittsburgh. This event, hosted at Pittsburgh Technical College, focused on the latest updates and information on Microsoft SQL Server.

As explained on the event’s website, the event sessions “offer content across data management, cloud and hybrid architecture, analytics, business intelligence, AI, and more.” This was a great chance to learn about innovations and best practices for this powerful data technology.

Data Is at the Center of Technology

Data technology plays an important role in just about every aspect of computing. Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system that is a popular and feature-rich way to handle the data needs of applications.

It is important to stay current on all the latest developments because innovations in data have far-reaching implications. The sessions at SQL Saturday included topics such as mapping data flows, using SQL Server and Azure, and ethics in data management.

Data and the Hybrid Cloud

Microsoft’s Azure product was a key focus of the event. The hybrid cloud, a combination of cloud and on-premise computing, is growing increasingly important to modern businesses. Azure, Microsoft’s cloud solution, is a popular choice for hybrid implementations.

Businesses need to be able to leverage the latest in both cloud computing and data to stay competitive. Several sessions at the event focused on Azure Data Factory, a data integration service. Jay learned a lot about the latest and greatest ideas in Microsoft SQL and Azure. We are excited to use this new insight to better serve our clients.

Staying up to date with the latest in technology is a high priority for us at Palitto Consulting Services. The technology world moves quickly, and innovations can represent major competitive advantages for the businesses we serve. Our emphasis on continual learning helps us bring the technology of large enterprises to the small- to mid-size companies we work with. Team of Developers Attend Microsoft Event

November 14, 2019 by Kevin Denee

DogFoodCon, held annually in Columbus, Ohio, is a major Microsoft-centered professional development event for tech professionals. Developers from PCS attended DogFoodCon 2019. This opportunity to expand their knowledge of a wide variety of Microsoft tools has yielded some important insights.

Top New Tech Discussions

Sessions on cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, app development and cloud computing delved into their wide-ranging applications for today’s business technology. Here are some key issues our developers explored at the convention:

  • Office 365: Office 365 discussions focused on ways in which developers can provide effective tools for their organization’s needs. Topics included the use of Teams and SharePoint, as well as optimal security practices.
  • Security: Cybersecurity continues to be a major concern for all types of businesses and organizations. Developers heard about the innovative use of security algorithms and the tools offered by Microsoft to safeguard cloud computing and other operations.
  • Data Analysis: Businesses increasingly rely on social media to attract new customers and retain existing ones. Accurate data analysis tools are key to understanding the impact of a social media campaign and to course-correct as necessary. Building the right tools to collect and analyze customer feedback is just one of the many aspects of developing sentiment analysis tools that yield necessary information.
  • Development Approaches: From going over Javascript frameworks to testing for ADA compliance, app development discussions centered on timely issues. Other topics in app development included the role of bot frameworks such as Microsoft’s Azure Bot Service in building the interactive aspects of applications.

In addition to new developments and approaches in programming, our developers also participated in talks on key interactive skills for tech professionals. Effective team-building and problem-solving remain top priorities in maintaining professional excellence.

PCS Attends Global Azure Bootcamp

June 19, 2019 by Kevin Denee

Microsoft Azure, the ever-evolving set of cloud-based tools from the prolific software giant, is one of the dominant forces in cloud-based computing and hybrid systems solutions for every size of business. So, when over 300 communities worldwide host a day devoted to every topic imaginable relating to this growing set of services, you know that PCS will be there to learn all we can learn about the latest trends and implementations.

That level of learning took place on April 27, 2019, when PCS team member Jay Holiday attended the Microsoft Global Azure Bootcamp in Cleveland. His sole intent on being present was staying current with the latest tools and features within the Microsoft Cloud platform.

Learning More, Serving Better

At PCS, we believe the more we learn about the latest technologies, the better we can help our clients implement them in meaningful ways to affect their businesses positively. Since Azure is currently such a significant part of the cloud and hybrid solutions for business, we knew attending and gleaning as much information as possible was crucial to our clients’ success.

The Azure-related topics covered at the workshop were wide-ranging and included security, data analytics, machine learning, bots, cost optimization and business implementations. Another aspect of the conference that matters as much, if not more than, the actual information sessions was the opportunity to make contacts and network with professionals involved in developing and deploying Azure applications at every level.  Nurturing these contacts results in the growth of a valuable information resource that we use to benefit our clients in their endeavors.

PCS developers dive deep into Azure at Microsoft event

Staying on top of the continually changing high-tech landscape is something we take seriously at PCS. We want to make sure we provide our clients with the latest information on cloud migration best practices. In line with that way of thinking, we sent two PCS team members to the recent Microsoft Azure Developer Camp in Cleveland, OH. Our team members love attending this type of intensive daylong workshop event to learn directly from Microsoft experts and get a better feel for the direction the industry shaper is moving concerning cloud support technology.

Learning What Our Customers Need to Know

Our team members received instruction and hands-on practice in using containers in Azure and the burgeoning trends in Kubernetes. They also gained new skills and levels of insight that help make them invaluable to our core mission of “We Care, We Know, We Serve.” By increasing our level of technical understanding, we are better able to help our customers develop strategies for application migration to the cloud that is as painless and profitable as possible.

Keeping in Touch With What’s Going On

PCS understands that the rate of change in today’s business technology is a crucial factor in our client’s success. To keep up, we stay focused and committed to being an active part of the tech community. Connecting with industry experts through events like the Microsoft Azure Development Camp is one way that we strive to stay involved and informed so we can provide better guidance at any point in the modernization process.
